You’re invited to a special viewing of the documentary An Act of Love which will be held at Asheville Pizza and Brewing (675 Merrimon Ave.) on Thursday, April 21st at 7:00 pm. A time of discussion will follow after the movie. Below is an excerpt from an email sent out by our District Office:
As you know General Conference is fast approaching and there will be many topics discussed and votes cast. In an attempt to prepare for General Conference through continuing Healthy Conversations the Blue Ridge District is going to provide a free screening opportunity to watch the documentary “An Act of Love.”
Created by two up and coming documentarians Scott Sheppard and Kate S. Logan and produced by Pauley Perrette the film takes a look at the story of Frank Schaefer. Frank, a former United Methodist pastor, was defrocked after presiding over the marriage ceremony for his son and his son’s partner. The film interviews folks from many theological backgrounds and shares thoughts from Good News and the Reconciling Ministries Network.
We are showing the movie on April 21st at 7:00 PM at Asheville Pizza and Brewing at 675 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804. After the showing, we will have a time of discussion.
It is our hope that this screening will be a time to further dialogue. We know that not everyone agrees on each theological point but we also recognize that we need to talk and work together to be the church God is calling us to become.
Grace and peace,
John and Luke
