Do you ever wish you could experience Christmas in church the way it would have been before our modern world invaded our lives with cell phones and everything else? So do we! Set aside some time to come and celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas Eve with a special service that will be like it was in the year our church was founded in the Beaverdam Valley back in 1801.
The service will begin at 5:00 pm with a concert by the group Primrose, featuring period music on the hammer dulcimer and guitar by Lorna Schultis and Carol Kinsey. All the music for our service will be from the early 1800’s or earlier. The church will also be decorated with period natural decorations of the season, and the service itself will be based on John Wesley’s Sunday Service for the Methodists in North America (1784). Our worship leaders will also be dressed in period attire.
Special music and accompaniment will be provided by Primrose during the service, along with the musical talents of Dr. Leslie Welker on the flute, Dr. Merritt Moseley on the guitar, and Dr. Vance Reese on the harpsichord and organ. Parking is available on the street by the church, at Jones School, or at the Beaverdam YMCA lot. You’ll want to arrive early for this amazing worship service as we honor the birth of Christ in the way our forebears in the faith would have in these mighty hills long ago.
