Our History

A Legacy of Faith Since 1801

Founded in 1801 by Bishop Francis Asbury, Asbury Memorial UMC is the oldest Methodist church in Western North Carolina. From pioneer cabins to our current sanctuary built in 1928, our church has been a place of worship and community for over two centuries. We continue to carry forward our mission to “live to God and bring others to do so” here in Asheville.
